A Wedding So Epic… Words Cannot Describe Its Glory

There are CU Fans, and then there are CU FANS. Erinn and Kostas are the definition of the latter. I think they might only have jobs so they can afford their tickets. Everything we planned revolved around CU. The engagement session was at CU. The breakfast was at the diner they like to eat at before the games. Their sun rises and sets by the CU Buffs (so it must be pretty dark out lately for them. Sorry guys…)

But I think being a FAN can go too far. And I have been in turmoil about posting this photo, and I’ve even prayed about it.

I’m just not sure how a blatant “groom-on-Ralphie love”  shot will go over. I mean, I’m sure that some hardcore fans will shrug and say, “Boy, if I had a nickel for every time I humped Ralphie when there was no one else around…”

But then there might be other Buffs loyalists who might find this act of man-beast love offensive, and the last thing that I want is to get Kostas mugged by bunch of drunk CU fans who don’t understand the connection a hairy Greek and a metal buffalo statue might really have… but it’s too freakin’ funny and I just have to post it! And again, you see Erinn just letting Kostas go. Because at this point, we all realized there really is no stopping him and his wonderful, zany energy ( just ask me sometime about Kostas’ latest formal-wear creation: the shirt-boner…)

I was really impressed with the Stadium Club at Folsom field. Just the fact it overlooked that legendary field was cool enough, but it was also a pretty classy venue. I was a true club level, just like at Invesco Field. I’ve been to plenty of college stadiums where the “club level” is nearly as utilitarian at the general admission seats, they just cost more (USAFA comes to mind).

The food, which was done by the Stadium Club, was wonderful. Huge choice cuts of lamb and amazingly prepared Greek inspired sides were gratefully consumed by all the guests, including yours truly (have I ever mentioned we don’t get fed at all of our weddings?).

One of the most heavily used areas of the Stadium Club was the balcony on the other side of the club level from the field. It wasn’t huge, but it’s where I found nearly everyone at some point in the evening. Why? Because you can smoke just steps away from the dance floor, hello! But in addition to that was the fact it’s 15 stories high and has a great view of the illuminated practice fields below and an amazing vista of the city of Boulder at night.

But my favorite part of this wedding was watching a Scandihoovian family and a Greek family come together and celebrate the love of  Erinn and Kostas. The Greeks brought such energy and exuberance and the Scandinavians… well, as a Norwegian all I can say is: Thank God there wasn’t any lutefisk! Now that I think about it, it’s probably better the Greek traditions were prevalent (the dancing, the hopa!, etc), Scandinavians have become a little homogenized. I can’t think of a Scandinavian wedding tradition right off the top of my head (there could have been more Akvavit there. The Greeks would have liked that, I think!).

The evening was the perfect culmination of everything that was fun and loving and memorable about the day. The reception flew by (if you look at the gallery we posted on the main website, you’ll see why), and at the end of the night we really felt like we had witnessed something epic. And Erinn and Kostas were so exhausted by the end of the night, we found them hiding alone on the balcony as we left. I love this parting shot: I think it shows exactly what a day like this felt like.

Thank you, Erinn and Kostas, for choosing us to capture your wedding day. We loved meeting your friends and family. It was amazing, and I hope our photos did it justice! You truly set the bar for what an epic and fun wedding should be.
