Senior Combo Session

It’s that time of year again, for senior photos! I’ve been rocking out a lot of senior sessions lately, and with yearbook deadlines, etc… I’ve obviously dropped the ball on blogging any of them. So I’ll start now.

Meet Leticia and Brett, they are boyfriend and girlfriend, and just lovely!

This was such a fun session, because it was a combination of senior photos for both Leticia and Brett, and then we also threw some couple photos of the two of them into the mix.

Leticia is clearly drop dead gorgeous and Brett is just as handsome, but the best part was how comfortable they were around each other. I know I couldn’t have posed and acted natural for my senior photos, in front of my high school boyfriend, there’s no way, but these guys rocked it!

We really had a great time running around downtown Colorado Springs, discovering dark and creepy alleys, and making some cool photos. I love it when my clients are up for playing and finding new areas to shoot at. It does take some patience, especially with me and my photographers A.D.D.  I’m constantly like, “oh that looks cool, let’s go over there”, and “ooh let’s try something different”, and “OK, never-mind, that doesn’t work the way I wanted it to”, and “look at that wall, let’s walk down there”, and “I know this alley is filthy, dark and rather scary, but come on, it’ll make for an awesome shot”!  I’m sure most of the time, they’re thinking, “um, really? All I see are cigarette butts, dirty brick walls and weeds growing out of the cracks in the ground”!

Thank you Leticia and Brett for putting your faith in me to take your senior photos, I love love how the shots turned out. I attribute most of that to your easy going, fun and “up for anything” personalities!  I wish you guys the best of luck with your senior year, and who knows, maybe you’ll come to me someday for wedding photos!

My Awesome Seniors 2009!

So I’ve finally finished my last senior session for 2009 (I suppose there could be some last minuters) and have been going through the sessions to pick out my favs.  I’m going to blog a bigger post with more images here in a day or so, but thought I’d show you all, just how awesome my 2009 seniors were.  At some random point during their sessions this year, I would have them do a crazy jump for me.  Sometimes it really helps everyone to just loosen up and have some fun!  I was so honored this year to get some of the coolest high school seniors ever.  Stay tuned for more pics from these sessions, some of my favorite shots of all time. Enjoy this fun little slide show in the meantime!

Seniors: Colby and Becca

Colby and Becca were so much fun to work with… we didn’t have a location in mind, I met them at Colby’s house and we just jumped in the car and drove around… very spontaneous and we found lots of neat little places to take pictures! They are so cute together, so in love… and were willing to do anything I asked them, gotta’ love that in a client!

Colby’s little brother, Jack, wanted to join in on some of the fun too!

Ethan’s Senior Portraits (Colorado Springs Portrait Photographer)

I had the pleasure of photographing Ethan for his high school senior portraits… and what a handsome guy he is!

Seniors are always fun to shoot… and a big change from 2 year olds.
They listen (for the most part) and cooperate much better than a baby.  At least, thats usually the case but could be a different story depending on the senior.

I had a great time with Ethan and hope he has an amazing senior year!

Rampart High School Senior Portrait Fair!!! May 4th, 2009

senior_banner1If you’re a Class of 2010 senior at Rampart High School (or if you know one) please make sure you check us out at the Class of 2010 Senior Fair this next Monday 5/4/2009.

Charlotte and Kim (our incredible Senior Portrait photographers) will be in attendance with amazing senior album samples and fun games and prizes!

Notice: If you’re looking for safe and really blasé senior portraits of the typical stale poses and hands on chins: DO NOT COME HERE! You won’t like your photographs.

However, if you love the idea of unique, highly stylized portraiture with the perfect blend of fine art and high fashion: Please come here! You’ll love your photos!

Parents: don’t be shy! Please stop and ask questions. We recognize that these senior class portraits aren’t like yours were back in the day, but I’m sure your son/daughter and Char and Kim will be able to explain why our style of senior photography is really, really, really a lot cooler than yours were! Sorry, but it’s true…

You can follow the link or click the banner to the left to check out Kim and Char’s high school senior portrait samples.

Charlotte’s New 2009 High School Senior Portrait Samples…

bethany228.jpg

Well, 2008 has come and gone, and what a year it was. This is the time of year that we sift through a mountain of work from 2008 and try and narrow it down to our absolute favorites. It never fails, but emotions start to run high as we get down to our absolute favorite shots, and the fur flies.

After the dust settles, however, Charlotte and I have always managed to agree and compromise, and the resulting collections are incredible.

Over the next few days I’ll be highlighting her different portrait galleries as we finish them.

The gallerie du jour for this post is her 2009 high school senior gallery. Charlotte senior photos are one of a kind. She has the innate ability to create authentic, relaxed portraiture of subjects who are perhaps the most notorious for being self-conscious and hesitant to appear “uncool”: the 18-year-old American teenager.

In our sales sessions, her portraits inspire squeals of excitement and conversation from our seniors. Needless to say, their parents are often speechless at these sudden outbursts of communication, as they had grown accustomed to one-word-answers, grunts-while-texting and eye-rolling as the standard mode of communication from their kids!

I was no different. My mother lovingly referred to me as “The Ogre” from 13 to 18. It’s hard to believe now since you can’t shut me up, but my standard mode of communication was grunting and avoidance of eye contact. So I get it, seniors. We get you. And that’s why we’re successful at capturing who you really are, not some idealized version of you, because the real you: is pretty cool.

NEW Portrait, Boudoir, & Maternity / Newborn Pricing…

Charlotte and I have been absolutely floored by the demand from Colorado Springs and Denver for her portrait photography. We are eternally grateful to all of our clientele over the last year that have made ’08 a huge success for Trystan Photography (and in a bad economy)!

However, we have recently started to realize the scope of our limitations, and we are terrified that our customer service has begun to suffer under the current level of demand. Also, with the pressure of dealing with the tremendous volume of photographs that need to be processed, we’re convinced that the quality of our work will begin to diminish if the current workload continues…

So with that said, we’ve decided that the there has never been a more applicable philosophy than “less is more”, and we have updated our portrait pricing accordingly.

Our goal for Trystan Photography has always been to develop the regions’ most exciting fine art / boutique photography studio with a select client base dedicated to sharing in our grand experiment of capturing the rarest moments of life in as artful and exceptional a presentation as possible.

We’re very excited about our updated price structure for Charlotte’s portraits. To view the new pricing, please visit:

Another Susan

Susan is graduating from college this month and she wanted to take some pictures to commemorate this time in her life. I took her sister Angie’s senior portraits last year and I also took pictures of her Dad Mike and his wife Ginger a few months ago. They are such a photogenic family.

Susan has a natural modeling ability and I really think she should try and pursue something in this field. She thinks she’s too short, but her looks are stunning and I think that can override the short thing. I’m calling Tyra!

Good luck with all you do Susan!
